Breech Babies
Can chiropractors turn breech babies? Can doulas turn breech babes? The answer to both of these questions is simply, “no.” Only obstetricians are trained in this procedure. However, chiropractors and doulas have distinguished tool sets designed to help a pregnant mother’s body create a better environment for the baby to turn on its own.
Chiropractors who are specifically trained in prenatal care are certified in the Webster technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). The Webster technique includes a series of adjustments, ligament releases, and muscle stretches in a certain pattern which allow the mother’s pelvis to get into a well-balanced position. When the mother’s pelvis is balanced, there is optimal space for the baby to move easier within the womb to get into a more optimal position for birth.
Doulas are trained in a wide variety of labor and birthing positions. Of which, if used in a certain pattern (specifically, the three balances by spinning babies), can help get the baby into a better birthing position. It is important to know several weeks before the baby’s estimated date of arrival if the baby is breech, as some of the positions need to be repeated several times to have a successful outcome.
If your baby happens to be in a breech position or if you know anyone who has a baby in a breech position, reach out to me to see how I may be able to help you and your family/friends.
